Welcome to 2019-2020

Biographies

The students did an amazing job this morning working on their Biographies.  In case they haven't shared what we're working on, they are taking their written/completed Biographies and making a Google Slides presentation.  It needs to be 10-20 slides, 5 slides must contain writing (from their written Biography).  We are moving onto Algebra & Patterning (soon) in math.  Our new Science focus is: The Diversity of Living Things

Google Slides Presentation

The above form is the checklist/criteria for the Google Slides Biography Presentation.  Students are taking their (already written) biographies and putting them on a slideshow presentation, which will be shared with the class. (Sorry for the blurry image (???) ... students are coming home with a copy today (in their Agenda).

Our Next Math Unit

Our next unit in Math will be on Transformations (such as rotations, reflections, translations, etc).  The video link below may be helpful to go over with your child before Monday, if you have some time this weekend.  (Free time? What's THAT?!) ;) Honestly, it's not the most exciting thing to watch (for 9 minutes), but it nicely covers what we will learn about next week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJTxv-tRKj0 Also, if anyone is looking to get rid of any old/broken: batteries, phones, televisions, receivers, monitors etc, a teacher at the school is taking in these items for a friend of hers that is collecting them to help fund some treatment that she is receiving out of Canada.  A list of accepted items is posted below.  Thank you in advance!  *(This is NOT a school fundraiser, I am only mentioning this because I feel like someone probably has a few of these items kicking around that they'd like to get rid of ... so send 'em in on Monday (last day) with your ch

REMIND Changes :(

This is an email I received about Remind: Rogers Canada was planning to charge Remind a fee that made it impossible for us to continue supporting text messaging for anyone with a Rogers wireless plan. Now, Bell Canada has decided to charge Remind a similar fee as well. Please read on for all the important details—we promise to keep this as short as we can. What’s happening? To offer our text messaging service free of charge, Remind has always paid for each text that users receive or send. Now, Rogers and Bell are charging us  additional  fees intended for companies that send spam over their networks. Remind messages aren’t spam, but our efforts to resolve the issue with the telecoms haven’t been successful. As a result, the Rogers and Bell fees increase our costs of supporting SMS in Canada to at least 25X our current cost. This isn’t financially feasible for us to support, and it’s forcing us to end Remind text messaging for everyone who has a wireless plan on the Rogers an

Pick Ups and Drop Offs (beginning January 5th, 2019)

Happy New Year Everyone! Please see below important (NEW!) info about our ever crammed parking lot.  This is from the school administrators:  To ensure the safety of our students and community members, there will be changes to our pick up and drop off routines beginning Monday, January 7th, 2019.  The following changes will take place at that point. Changes to morning routines: 1.   Areas that have resulted in several close calls are when parents are pulling in and out of parking spots in the morning.  That movement has resulted in many incidents where parents are not seeing students getting out of adjacent vehicles and have almost hit them.  Students also have to cross our busy entryway resulting in further risk.   To address this, vehicles will not be able to pull into or leave these parking spaces after 8:30.  Vehicles that have parked in these spaces before this time will not be able to leave our parking area until 8:50.   The kiss and ride and access to the parking lo
